Pony.ai unveils autonomous electric truck for logistics fleets

Pony.ai has unveiled an autonomous electrical truck for logistics fleets, developed with GAC Commercial Vehicle for freight provide chains.

Unveiled at IAA Transportation 2026, this Stage 4 (L4) heavy rig marks the fourth-generation (Gen-4) iteration of Pony.ai’s Robotruck platform. It builds on GAC Business Car’s T9 battery-electric truck structure, with mass manufacturing set to begin later this 12 months. Preliminary routes will goal long-haul freight, devoted logistics corridors, and port transport operations.

He Xing, VP of Pony.ai and Head of its Robotruck enterprise, mentioned: “The worldwide debut of the T9 autonomous heavy-duty truck with GAC Business Car marks one other essential step in accelerating the mass manufacturing and industrial deployment of Pony.ai’s Robotrucks.

“Trying forward, we’ll deepen our collaboration with GAC Business Car, proceed advancing quantity manufacturing and deployment of the T9 Robotrucks, and convey our jointly-developed autonomous trucking options to markets around the globe.”

Pony.ai Robotruck sensor structure and equipment prices

An automotive-grade autonomous driving equipment (ADK) equips the car with 9 lidars, three millimetre-wave radars, and 13 cameras, offering full 360-degree sensing across the truck.

{Hardware} bills for the system have fallen sharply. The bill-of-materials value for the Gen-4 ADK is down 70 % in contrast with the earlier iteration, and transportation working prices per ton-kilometre are projected to drop by 30 %.

Power effectivity is paired with aerodynamic refinements. Pony.ai’s management algorithms work alongside the T9 cab’s 0.4 drag coefficient (Cd) to scale back power consumption by 10 % in contrast with typical haulage vehicles.

Digital Driver compute and chassis redundancy

The Gen-4 Robotruck shares its central area controller with Pony.ai’s seventh-generation (Gen-7) robotaxis, operating the corporate’s unified ‘Digital Driver’ software program.

Engineers paired the software program stack straight with GAC Business Car’s drive-by-wire chassis. For dependable driverless operation, full {hardware} backups are built-in throughout steering, braking, energy provide, computing, sensors, and communications.

Growth grew out of a strategic settlement signed on 16 April, with each companions finishing car validation in 5 months to achieve manufacturing readiness.

Autonomous truck manufacturing and world logistics deployment

Pony.ai has pursued autonomous trucking growth since 2018, assembling a fleet portfolio throughout heavy- and light-duty platforms.

The corporate’s industrial logistics programme entails car producers and transport operators spanning bulk commodity delivery, port logistics, city supply, and long-haul line haulage. The platform applies equivalent core software program throughout passenger robotaxis and heavy transport automobiles.

Following the preliminary home manufacturing run this 12 months, Pony.ai plans to increase its Robotruck operations into European and Center Japanese markets over the following two years. The freight push will draw on current footholds established by its robotaxi deployments within the UAE, Qatar, Croatia, Luxembourg, Singapore, and South Korea.
